Top Tips

  • Be prepared
  • Run through your dressage test before you go in the arena, I often suffer from memory loss especially riding 2 horses at different levels
  • Have somebody on the ground to help you warm up, my mum often picks up things to improve my riding
  • Practice practice practice! Video yourself often so you can see where improvements could be

 Personal Highpoint

  • Last year, it was being ranked in the top 20 for British Eventing Foundation Points half way through the year. I was also very pleased to pick up Badminton RF qualifications just missing out on a place at the Badminton Championships by 0.1!!

Took me to CCI* level 35th out of 105 finishes at Osberton International Horse Trials, 9th & 12th place at Chatsworth International, Numerous placings at Novice level. October Sponsored Rider Update

With the eventing season drawing to a close, Louise Doherty, Becci Harrold and David Doel have been reflecting on a successful season, what to improve and what to look forward to next year in their latest updates… Becci Harrold Well that’s 2016 wrapped up! The last few weeks have been fairly quiet compared to usual as lots of work has been going on with my house so Annie has had an easy run up to her last event. In hindsight this wasn’t the best idea as I have always found the more consistent her runs are the better she has gone! On the run up to Norton Disney RF, she had 2 other finals to attend. At Vale View Equestrian Centre, she finished 8th in the Intermediate class at the Arena Eventing Championships and 10th in her other class despite picking up 4 faults, which she would have won if she didn’t have as she was spot on the optimum… typical! Still a good day was had and that set us up nicely for the Eventer Trial Champs at Osberton. This was held over the 5yo championship course, something I have always wanted to jump around. Although Annie didn’t manage it as a 5yo she flew round a year later picking up 3rd place which we were delighted with. As we prepared for our last event I couldn’t prepare for how Annie was about to act! We turned up for the dressage warm up and low and behold, someone decided to sit right behind the dressage judge eating their breakfast behind the bushes which sent Annie into a spooky... read more

An Update from Becci Harrold Eventing

Becci has been in touch with her latest blog, and it would seem that August has been full of highs, lows and a new addition to her team. Read on to find out what she has been up to this month! Well, it has been a whirlwind the last month. Annie has been such a superstar with her performance, that I have now been able to fine tune parts to enable us to get those all-important last few marks that we need to get us where we want to be. I have focused so much on the dressage, but I must admit it has been rather frustrating as per usual! She achieved some fantastic marks in May/June but they have slightly gone up from 20’s to low 30’s which has been a shame for qualifications. We went to Breckenbrough for a tough BE100 run and that it was! So many skinnies, combinations and angled brushes that tested us both but she jumped another brilliant double clear, and it was just the dressage that held us back with a reasonable score of 32.5 placing us 7th. This was a blow as we needed to be in 6th place to gain another regional final qualification. We then scheduled in mid-week the new BEDE Eventer Trial, who are going to hold a final at Osberton for the top 30 placed riders. Annie was super, and jumped a double clear, picking up 2nd place which gave us 9 points and enough to get us into the final which I am really looking forward to. Up next was our first regional final at Shelford... read more

A successful month for Becci and Annie!

Becci has had plenty of success this month with her lovely mare Shannondale Annie. Read her latest blog to find out what they have been up to: “Annie has been going very well at BE100 level, picking up a 2nd place at Speetley, 4th place at Skipton and 7th place at Breckenbrough, which means that we have three regional finals to plan for to hopefully get us to the Badminton Grassroots Final 2017! Wow that would be amazing! Another bonus was that she has qualified for the Frickley Yorkshire challenge which should be exciting! Following on from BE, I have competed for my local riding club team where we came second individually and also won with the team, meaning we are off to the championships for three days in August! We also did our bit for the Barlow Pony Club by picking up another 2nd place individually and helping the team to finish 6th, which was a shame as we just missed out on qualification! To finish off a good month, I found out that Annie has made it into the top 20 horses in the British Eventing Foundation Points league lying in joint 13th! I couldn’t be... read more

2015 National Champions!

“What an incredible day! We are now National Open Show Jumping Champions!! A faultless team score got us the win outright out of 16 teams! Lady jumped 2 perfect clear rounds and finished 12th individually, she was so brilliant, it really showed how tough the course was when out of all those teams we were the only ones to finish after 2 rounds on a clean sheet! I think Lady did start to wonder going in to show jump for a 3rd time what hell we were doing!! Massive well done to my amazing team mates at East Midlands Dressage... read more

Gatcombe Park Novice Championships

“I have just about landed from cloud 9 after such an incredible weekend at the Gatcombe Park Novice Championships. Definitely the best event I have ever been to. Next weekend we have the Arena Eventing championships at Vale View with £650 for first prize and I have both horses there in 3 classes so fingers crossed I can win some much needed prize money! Annie was very fast in the qualifiers so hoping she can repeat that in the champs! End of August we are off to Prestwold for the BE100 with Annie, she already has one RF qualification for Badminton next year, so now I am just trying to get as many as I can so we have a few chances of getting there which would be amazing! Then Lady is due to have a little break while Annie heads to the new Yorkshire Challenge at Frickley Park which she qualified for by coming 3rd in their last event. Again there is £1000 prize money for the winner and BE membership for next year which would certainly come in... read more

A busy and successful month for Becci

What a cracking month we have had, lots of great events and even more great results! Annie has been going from strength to strength growing up and really getting the hang of eventing! She was superb at Chatsworth taking in the atmosphere like an old head on young shoulders and she performed so well over the biggest track she has ever done! Talk about throwing her in at the deep end! Lady was a total superstar for me at Chatsworth, she jumped what I thought was my best round show jumping and backed that up with another super clear round a tough XC just finishing outside the placings. It’s by far the most nerve wracking event for me with family and friends coming to support us only being 15 minutes away I soon have someone I know stood at every fence on the XC cheering me on, which is really nice and one of the reasons I aim to be there every year! The following week Lady went to Rockingham International Horse Trials which was another big atmosphere and a new event we haven’t been to before. She was a little star again jumping a super double clear for 8th place in a hotly contested Novice section. It was nice to rub shoulders with Jock Paget for a moment before we beat him 😉 ! Annie went to Shelford Manor on Sunday for the BE90 she is getting really consistent at this level now always bettering her dressage score each time we go out and is now jumping double clears. She finished 7th which I was delighted with and... read more
