Condition is a concern to every horse owner. Many owners worry that their horse may become underweight, and with one in ten horse horses suffering from laminitis more and more owners are also becoming increasingly aware of the dangers of obesity in horses.

Proteins are chains made up of amino acids and are required for the production of muscle. There are 20 different amino acids, 10 of these are essential to the horse’s diet because the horse can not produce these themselves. These amino acids are the building blocks for tissue such as muscle, hair, skin and connective tissue

The quality of a protein is assessed by the content of these essential amino acids. Lysine is an amino acid found in smaller quantities in many feed ingredients, it is therefore important to use ingredients that include a good level of lysine such as soya.
