Jonti is my little Shetland Pony and is 19 years of age.

A friend gave her to me when she was 10-years-old to keep my mare company. She was found at a horse sale and was in a totally neglected state.

My farrier, who first attended her feet said they were really bad and had not had any attention for a considerable time.

As a result of this neglect her feet were a very strange shape and grew very quickly like Turkish slippers. When I first got her I sometimes had to get them trimmed every 3-4 weeks because they grew so long so quickly; now I have her feet trimmed every six weeks to keep them as short as possible which enables her to walk better.

I also had her feet X-rayed and the results showed damage to the joints and there is nothing that can be done. I just concentrate on keeping her comfortable now. She is not worked and is solely a companion pony to my riding horse. She is fine on soft ground but struggles on hard ground.

She has an open stable with a nice deep bed and can come and go as she pleases. She is a lovely little soul with a great personality and I don’t know how anyone could have neglected her in this way.

Last Spring I started her on Blue Chip Lami-light. My other little Shetland who has EMS had laminitis and I bought it for her but thought I would give some to Jonti as well. There has been a significant difference in Jonti’s hooves since then. They are a much better shape, she is walking much better and they are not growing nearly so long now.

My farrier had very little to trim off them on his last visit and commented on this. Since feeding the Lami-light her feet are now a much more normal shape – sorry I haven’t got a recent photo of her.

I would highly recommend this balancer and will continue to feed it all year round.

My foal, Malachy, is fed Blue Chip Original and I wanted to share how he’s been getting on since using it.

He has settled down a lot in the last two months, I have had help with him and he can now be caught and handled although sometimes I have to chase him round his Mum a couple of times first.

I am starting to pick his feet out and lead him around. He has had his 1st two flu & tetanus jabs and has been microchipped and he was very good on both occasions.

He is still a nervous boy, which might be just the way he is but I am working with him daily between poo picking the field, filling up the water trough and rushing to work.

The main difference is how much he has grown, he now stands at 13hh and weights 513lbs. I have also noticed that his bone density has increased, and comparing the difference between him and his half siblings in the farm next door, he has more bone and better growth size for size than they do.

Unfortunately his mum has had a positive diagnosis of Cushings in October, she’s only 7 years old. I have had my suspicions for a couple of years, but thought she was too young, this is another reason why I did not want to breed from her (although she had other ideas!)

She has been on Lami-light for a while now as I noticed she was hanging onto her coat in Spring and since October has a daily Pergolide tablet and is doing well. The farrier commented on how tough her feet were and mentioned she would not need shoes, so I am really pleased as last year they were full of grass cracks and could not keep a set of shoes on, she also had an abscess.

I think the loyalty scheme on the new bags is a great idea, I am definitely going to use that.

I bought a standard Shetland, called Rosie, who had a foal on her but was in fair condition. After weaning the foal she looked poor and had difficulty shedding her winter coat.

I decided to put Rosie on Lami-light, so that she had a feed when the others did.

I have seen the improvement in the bigger horses after using a feed balancer but I didn’t think that it would be the same in a Shetland however the improvement in her was amazing. She looks fantastic now and is an absolute poppet.

She has been transformed from a nervous little pony to being handled and rode by 3-7 year olds who will  happily take her out. Rosie trots along with one on board, one leading and usually the youngest toddling in front. Her lovely nature is well known by many and as far as I am concerned she is the bigggest hearted horse we have ever had.

Earlier this year Rosie competed for fun at Amateur Showing Summer and won Reserve Champion.

Recently I rescued a 4-year-old cob mare, who has had 2 foals already and is broken to ride and drive. She is now being fed on Blue Chip Lami-Light too.

 My Shetland pony, Barley, is over 18-years-old and had very bad laminitis.

I have been using Blue Chip’s Lami-light, Karma and AppleCalm.

I am not sure if it was adding Lami-light to her diet or something in her previous low calorie-balancer that didn’t agree with her, but the difference in her after a few days is amazing. I also bought a bottle of Karma to feed to her daily.

When we were at Sedgefield show on Saturday; I gave her AppleCalm before we loaded and it was amazing!

She stood in a collecting ring with generators, kids bursting balloons, music (all of which would have normally wound her up) like a rock. She then went in her class and did a foot-perfect show and came 5th out of 15 in a very strong class of mares, and under a judge that 3 months ago at another show didn’t even look at her.

Yesterday we went to Trawden Show. I followed the same routine and again at a very busy and noisy show,  she kept calm and took 2nd in a strong mare class. The difference in my pony is amazing, both in the way she looks and the way she behaves at shows.

The last few years she has gone from being a top class show pony into a pony that was ‘ok’ and was definitely lacking something, until we started using the Blue Chip products. Fingers crossed after this weekend she will improve more and I will get my pony back to how she was. She is improving daily and is so much calmer at shows.

I have also put my ridden ex-Grand National Shetland on Karma and gave her AppleCalm at a show on Saturday. She has previously got stressed in the show ring, particularly after the ride-round however after a foot-perfect show she went on to win her Ridden Shetland Pony Class.
