Blue Chip FAQ's

Question :
Can Blue Chip Feed Balancers benefit any breed of equine, whatever their age, whether competing in the Olympics or used purely for pleasure?

Answer :
Blue Chip Original can be fed to foals from 3 weeks of age to help them grow big and strong with dense bone and it is hoped that it may also help with D.O.D. - a structural weakness that can halt a young horse's career. Very old horses need help with their digestion, especially when their teeth begin to deteriorate. Many of these veterans are doing exceptionally well on Blue Chip Pro as they are benefiting from being placed on a higher nutritional plane. Whether your horse is competing at high level and fed on Blue Chip Pro, or is a family pet fed on Blue Chip Original, it is important to realise that the horses ecological diet is prairie type grassland, with a huge variety of herbs and grasses, but we expect the horse to fit into a modern world, put him in a nice warm stable and give him breakfast, lunch and tea (dinner if he is lucky) and luckier still if he is allowed to graze for a few hours, so most could do with a little help. Many British grasslands are not ideal for horses, grass may be too lush, fertilised, high in Nitrogen, low in minerals, no herbs, few grass varieties, no cross species management e.g. grazed by sheep, or unfriendly to the horse: full of buttercups, clover and ragwort. There is a Blue Chip product suitable for every horse and pony.

Question :
Should Blue Chip Original be fed all year round, is it cost effective? Will I need to feed extra vitamins and minerals and by how much can I reduce my hard feed?

Answer :
To get the maximum benefit from the product it is advisable to feed all year round, but when the new grass is lush, you can reduce the amount fed. For the fit competition horse fed on Pro you could switch back to Blue Chip Original when the horse is in lighter work or turned out at grass. It can be cost effective as you may need no other vitamins, minerals, oils or supplements, plus your horse can look wonderful on less hard food, saving you money and the time adding a little bit of this and that to your horse's feed; reduce hard feed gradually as your horse's condition improves. Some people have been able to reduce their hard feed by 50%, however every horse or pony is an individual.

Question :
What if my horse is resting, or worse on enforced box rest due to injury?

Answer :
Keep feeding Blue Chip Original, your horse may come back into work more quickly and you could be amazed at how he keeps his muscle tone even when not being worked. When on enforced box rest, it is especially important to keep your horse's digestion running smoothly, you may also find he remains calm and sensible if you keep him on the feed balancer.

Question :
Why do some horses become calmer when fed the Blue Chip feed balancers and cope better with travelling and competing without tucking up?

Answer :
We don't put any kind of calmer in Blue Chip, but not only from our customers but also in independently run trials for tried and tested reports in leading equestrian magazines, horses and ponies have become calmer, happier and more content, both in and out of the stable. Customers have also told us their horses have stopped tucking up when travelling and even when excited. Their droppings have remained firmer than would be expected. When doing "tried and tested", all reports have noted how much calmer and more settled horses have become.
