Michele Hedley (owner) bred Hugo out of her advanced event mare Country Dance II after an injury ruled her out of competing at that level. After a lot of research, she decided on Mill Law as the stallion due to the stamp of horses he produced, and because of the success of his offspring.
Hugo had success in the show ring as a foal, yearling and 2 year old winning at county level and was always placed.
Michele backed Hugo when he was 3. When he was 4, she asked Chris Hall if he would take the ride on him. Michele chose Chris because of his reputation with young horses; he is careful with them and spends the time needed on them. He also has an excellent yard and grooms.
Michele and Chris decided to aim Hugo for the Lycetts 4 year old 2011 Championships. He qualified for these on his first BE outing with a 3rd place at Solihull, he then had one more BE90 run at Milton Keynes before the championships, where he finished 12th on his dressage score in a very competitive field.
This year Hugo won his first BE100 at Swalcliffe Park with a double clear. He also qualified for the Lycetts 5 year old championships at the first attempt with a 2nd place at Mount Ballan finishing on his dressage score. He then went to Nunney International and won again on an amazing dressage score of 19.5!
Hugo has now had a months R&R with Michele at home, and is now being hacked out to start getting him fit to go back to Chris’s next month, to prepare for the championships at Osberton. The plan is for him to run at Sapey, Goring Heath and Moreton Morrell.
Michele says, “I recognise that Hugo is still developing and at this point in his career to gain the support of a high profile brand, Blue Chip Feed, means a lot. I have fed Hugo Blue Chip since weaning and it is an important part of his feeding regime.”
We are delighted to welcome Michele, Chris and Hugo to the Blue Chip team, and we look forward to following him throughout the 2012 season.
