Are you interested in driving horse and ponies?

Are you aged between 5 and 25 years old?

Do you want to meet other like-minded young people?

.

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should consider joining the British Young Drivers (BYD). We hold two annual training camps, one in the Easter holidays at Unicorn Trust, Stow-on-the-Wold and the other in the summer holidays at Ashfields Carriage and Polo Centre, Great Canfield, near Dunmow, and we enjoy fantastic facilities and coaching at both venues.

In between we also have on-foot meetings, training clinics and our own Junior National Championships. Newcomers are always welcome to come along and see what we are all about, even without a pony.

.

What is British Young Drivers?

We are a friendly, diverse group of junior drivers with members of all ages from all over Great Britain with a clear aim of encouraging others into our sport and developing our own skills and knowledge. When attending BYD training events we benefit from excellent quality tuition, many of our instructors are now UKcc level 3 coaches and they are all hugely experienced. Our trainers help us set realistic goals and instruct us on how to achieve them. Many of our members enjoy success at all levels of competition. We have also recently incorporated Moodle, an online programme that helps the trainers keep track of our progress and provides a means of communication in between clinics.

British Young Drivers has a clear system according to each junior’s ability and experience and, as each young driver improves, he or she will progress accordingly. This enables coaching to be tailored to an appropriate level for the group so everyone gets the most out of a lesson. As well as driving we also have mixed group sessions of physiotherapy, nutrition and sports psychology and stable management. At present junior selection is underway for the Junior World Trophy (Junior World Championships) to be hosted by Austria in July 2012, which is very exciting for potential team members and supporters.

So how can you get involved?

BYD is open to anyone aged 5-25 years old. As soon as they are old enough, young drivers are expected to be a member of BHDTA. They must be BHDTA members (age permitting) if they are picked to join a junior team travelling abroad or when they start doing national competitions. If you want to keep up to date with all BYD events and activities check out  our webpage on the BHDTA website.
