The Festival of Side Saddle was a fantastic weekend, which featured competitions taking place over two days.
On Saturday October 1st, The Blue Chip Champagne Challenge saw nine students from Warwickshire College compete astride against the Side Saddle Association ladies.
Each rider was given a glass of champagne to hold whilst riding. The team of riders with the most champagne left in their glass at the end of the ride would be victorious.
The Warwickshire students triumphed against the Side Saddle ladies, who admitted they had been practising!
All the competitors were thrilled to receive enormous rosettes and Blue Chip vouchers.
On Sunday October 2nd, The Blue Chip Veteran Champion title was awarded to Helen Lawson, riding her 19-year-old ex-racehorse Compton Casper.
Casper was third in the Pas Seul for their programme from the ’King and I’ and also third in the Open Equitation Special, making him a very worthy winner.
He put in a good freestyle performance showing lateral work, a great example of what older horses are capable of if they’re well produced.
Helen and Casper together made a very elegant partnership.
As well as being well-known amongst fellow side-saddle riders, Helen also works to find homes for ex-racehorses.
Helen was thrilled about her win at the Festival and had this to say:
“Thank you so very much for sponsoring the weekend events held at Warwickshire College and Pittern Hill. Thank you also for the fabulous prizes presented to Casper for being the Veteran Champion.
It was a special moment and I felt very proud of my beautiful horse, who is still so capable even at 19 years of age. I love the waistcoat, the huge rosette and vouchers.
Casper will greatly benefit from the bottle of Blue Chip Joint RLF, which I have heard good things about. I’m thrilled to have a bottle to try.”
